Musical Theater Intensive:

Aug 6th-Aug. 10th   (Grades 7 to 12)

MUSICAL THEATER INTENSIVES

 

These one week workshops will break down the various steps involved in rehearsing, staging and performing a scene and song for musical theater.

No audition necessary. Participants are accepted to the workshop on a first come first serve basis: class size limited to twenty. Students will gain techniques for learning music quickly, rehearsal etiquette, taking blocking notes, vocal technique, and developing character and relationships through the rehearsal process.

All levels welcome; we will meet students where they are and push their skills farther. At the end of the week, students will present works-in-progress performances of the material, without sets or costumes and minimal lights, but with a strong focus on excellent performances.

PLAYWRITING FOR MUSICAL THEATER

 


Students will explore the craft of playwriting through a series of theater games, brief lectures, writing exercises and readings of their work. Topics covered will include- developing characters with objectives and motivation, creating dramatic tension, meter and scansion, setting words to music and writing dialogue. The class will culminate with a final presentation of scenes and lyrics written the students.

Prerequisites: No acting or playwriting experience required.
